Project Objective:

The project will: set up a zetoc service to provide Z39.50-compliant access to the British Library's Electronic Table of Contents; develop a prototype version of zetoc utilising the Cheshire software.

Project Highlights

Project Results

The initial zetoc service uses a Dataware BRS database, with a COPAC-like Z39.50 interface in addition to a Web interface. It allows searching of the British Library's Electronic Table of Contents of journal articles and conference papers.

The zetoc alert service allows users to request alerts when tables of contents of issues of their chosen journals are loaded into zetoc. This alert currently uses the BRS update file as input data, but in the future will use an SGML data feed. It is triggered by the zetoc daily update.

A protoype version of zetoc using the Cheshire software has been developed. XML files for zetoc records are created and indexed by Cheshire. A data mapping from the supplied BL SGML data has been specified and an XML DTD defined. Continued development of this prototype will take place during the zetoc Enhancement project.
